About
Marvin Clifford – this is my life … ‘til now…
I was born in 1983 and began to draw when I was still very young. My Daddy always says: „Since he was able to hold a pen! “. Since that time I was painting and sketching really exhausting all of my Daddy’s paper stocks. So quite early I came to a decision, what job I should do in the future.
My direction, working as Comic Artist, was more than clear. First of all I had to struggle through thirteen years school-days as all kids had to do (more or less), but I never lost my special call. Beside of school, I took part in some seminars and workshops in wannseeFORUM during my holidays. This kind of institution for young people formed my understanding in arts very much and I owe a lot to it.
Being a student, I got the chance to manage little jobs, which were conducive to my personal development. I should like to tell you as one example the story around fifth birthday of „Workshop of Cultures“ here in Berlin: While the former Federal President of Germany, Richard von Weizsäcker, hold a speech I draw a little cartoon of his face in a funny way that was projected on a big screen behind of him. First he didn’t notice anything but the smiling faces of the audience. He didn’t know before that this action was a part of the event! Then he turned round and smiled as well. He was deeply impressed. After all he sent me a letter with good wishes. (I was about 14 years old!)
I got to know the French comic-artist Emmanuel Murzeau (Manu) in WannseeFORUM, who became my teacher and mentor for the following years. Beside of this I could gain there a lot of experiences in acting on theatre under the famous stage manager Bernhard Gaudian (Bernardo Gui).
After graduation (Abitur), which I finished as best student in „Arts“ of the year, I went to study graphic-design at „Berliner technische Kunstschule“ (btK). My graduation project „Molps & Murphy“ helped me to graduate with an „A“.?Now it’s me being the workshop leader for Comics in WannseeFORUM and replacing my former teacher Emmanuel Murzeau.
Today I work for Computec Media, the biggest German magazine for computer freaks and Panini, who is publishing the German MAD magazine.
Sometimes I also work for Stenarts, which is a worldwide acting team of creative masterminds giving me a lot of input as well.
Now I’m a freelancer looking for several jobs to improve myself and earn some money (of course!). Another job is to work for the advertising agency FQL (Munich) as creative director for comics and illustrations. Together with Stephan Ehlers I created and illustrated a „How to juggle“ book.
My partner and friend Oskar Pannier and me created the web comic „Shakes & Fidget“, the comic heroes who poke fun of the online role-play-game World of Warcraft and other online-RPGs. This series became very famous in Germany. Comic-Strips of Shakes & Fidget can be read at www.shakesandfidget.com and buffed.de and getbuffed.com (English).
Well, that’s it so far.
…
Hey, Come on! I was trying to tell you my story as good as I can! Wake up! …
